About Susanne

A lifelong passion for colour

I have worked in business for more than 30 years, and I have finally taken the step to study Munsell colour theory and become certified in Sci/Art 12-tone colour analysis.

My studio is in Oslo, Norway, and is set up according to the standards of the 12-tone system in terms of lighting, calibrated drapes, and everything required.

I have a passion for textiles and make-up, and I also offer guidance on how to use your colours to your best advantage, build a simple coordinated wardrobe, and use make-up that enhances your features in a natural way.

Where it started

My first colour memory

My clearest memory of colour and myself comes from this photograph. I was around four years old and had received a few presents for either Christmas or my birthday: some plastic jewellery and a handbag.

The bag was dark navy patent plastic with pale gold hardware, the bracelet was emerald green, and the earrings were coral red with white details.

I do not remember what colour my outfit was, but I still love the style — a simple polo neck and trousers. Ever since then I have always been interested in colour and knew that one day I would work with it in some way.

My story

My own colour journey

From the wrong diagnosis to finding my true colours

1

The first analysis

In my early twenties

The first time I heard about colour analysis was in my early twenties. As a student, I had a part-time job in a jewellery shop, and a colleague introduced me to the book “Color Me Beautiful” by Carol Jackson. I bought the book and spent ages trying to work out which season I belonged to, but for the life of me I could not see myself in any of the descriptions.

2

Wrong again and again

The years that followed

I was first analysed as a “deep autumn”, but I did not feel good in those colours. Then I was re-analysed as a warm spring and advised to “warm up” my hair. The result? I felt and looked like an overcooked carrot. But I trusted the experts and tried for years to make it work.

3

The search for the truth

Several decades later

I was determined to solve the puzzle myself. I researched and asked how the analysis is done, what kinds of drapes are used, whether hair and eye colour matter, and once a season is chosen, how the palette is built — are the colours there by accident, or is there logic behind it all?

One summer, while on holiday, I was wearing an orange T-shirt — a nice, expensive one. Suddenly I reached a point where the colour made me feel physically unwell and I had to pull it off just to feel comfortable again.

The turning point that made me question everything

4

At last — my colours

The Sci/Art 12-tone system

All that research led me to the Sci/Art 12-tone colour system. When I was draped within that system, I could see for myself that I was a dark winter. This was the first analysis that (1) felt and looked right, (2) made logical sense, (3) did not make me feel physically unwell, and (4) gave me space to find the point within the palette that suits me best.

My season today

I am a dark winter leaning towards true winter, which means I look best in cool colours. My colours need to be a little softer than true winter, but I can also wear some lighter shades.

Brown or colours that lean brown make me look older or muddy. The wrong kind of winter yellow can be too strong on me. This matters especially for the colours I choose to wear close to my face.

My eye colour, hair colour, and skin tone all work together for me now — I am no longer fighting them, and I know that with a few simple choices I can look good for any occasion.

That does not mean I never go off track — I love a khaki-green dress I own and an old-rose polo neck jumper, both colours you would not find in my palette. But I still love them sometimes anyway.

Certification

Your Natural Design

I am certified in 12-Tone Personal Colour Analysis through Your Natural Design under the guidance of Anna Lazarska.

The training covers Munsell colour theory and the scientific Sci/Art 12-tone system — a methodology that gives far more precise results than traditional four-season analysis.

More than colour

The small things that make my heart sing

Beyond colour, I love the outdoors, gardening, cooking, and running — and the small, often overlooked things that make everyday life beautiful. Like a simple cup of coffee on a Monday morning or the meditative ritual of chopping vegetables for a hearty stew.
